The Cyprus Brief is a reader for Cyprus news. It has no account to sign into, no analytics, and no server of its own. What you read, what you save and what you have set are kept on your phone and nowhere else.
What is kept on your phone
Your chosen language and theme, the sources you follow and their order, your typeface and text size, your muted words and your watched words, stories you have hidden, which stories you have already seen, the headlines themselves for as long as you have chosen to keep them, stories you have saved along with a copy of their text, a copy of the newest stories if you have left that setting on, the time of your daily reminder, and the last weather reading. All of this lives in the app’s own storage on the device. Deleting the app deletes all of it. None of it is uploaded, backed up to us, or readable by us.
What leaves your phone
Four things, and nothing else.
The news itself: the app asks each publisher you follow for its feed, and loads the page when you open a story. If you leave “keep stories ready offline” on, it also fetches the words of the newest stories shortly after a refresh, so that they open with no signal — those stories are fetched whether or not you go on to read them. Every one of these requests goes to the publisher, exactly as it would if you typed their address into a browser.
The weather: the app asks Open-Meteo for a forecast. It sends a place — either coordinates from your phone or the town you set by hand — and nothing that identifies you or your device. If you look a town up by name, what you type is sent to Open-Meteo to find it.
The App Store: only if you choose to leave a tip. That exchange is between your phone and Apple — the app asks what the prices are and says which one you tapped.
A problem report: only if you write one, and only when you press send in your own mail app.
Your location
Only used for the weather, and only if you allow it. Your phone works out where you are; the app sends that position to Open-Meteo to fetch a forecast, and asks Apple’s geocoder for the name of the town so it can show it. The position is not stored beyond the current weather reading and is never sent anywhere else. You can set a town by hand instead, or turn the weather off, and the app will never ask for your location again.
Reading a story
Opening a story loads the publisher’s own page inside the app. That page is the publisher’s, and what it does — including cookies it sets and whatever it collects — is covered by their privacy policy, not this one. Ad and tracker blocking is on by default and refuses requests to a built-in list of advertising and tracking companies before they leave your phone, but a publisher’s own measurement of its own pages is beyond what any blocker can reach.
Ad blocking
The blocklist is part of the app. Nothing is looked up, nothing is reported, and no record of what was blocked leaves the device.
Notifications
The daily reminder is scheduled by your phone, for your phone. There is no push server, so nothing about it reaches us — not whether it fired, and not whether you opened it.
Reporting a problem
The report screen opens your own mail app with a message already written: what you typed, the category you chose, and basic technical details — the app version, your iOS version, your language and how many sources you follow. You can see and edit all of it before sending, and nothing is sent unless you press send. It goes to boogieapps.help@gmail.com and is used only to fix what you reported.
Supporting the app
If you choose to leave a tip, the payment is handled start to finish by Apple. The app asks the App Store what the prices are and tells it which one you tapped; it never sees your name, your email address or your card, and none of that reaches us. The only thing it learns is that a tip was left, which your phone remembers so the screen can say thank you rather than ask again. Nothing is unlocked, because nothing is locked.
Children
The app is a news reader intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children, and it collects nothing from anyone.
Changes
If the app ever does something new with data, this policy changes with it, in the same update. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
