Terms of Use

Last updated 25 September 2026

These terms apply when you use the CyShield app. Please read them. By using CyShield you accept them.

1. In an emergency, call 112

CyShield helps you find information quickly. It does not replace official emergency services, official warnings or instructions from the authorities.

If you are in danger, call 112 and follow instructions from the Police, Fire Service, Civil Defence and other authorities, even if the app shows something different.

2. Who provides CyShield

CyShield is an independent, free app made by Garbis Tapacian ("we"). You can contact us at boogieapps.help@gmail.com.

CyShield is not an official app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, the Civil Defence, the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Meteorology, the Audit Office or any other public authority. The official government app is SafeCY.

3. Where the information comes from

Shelter locations come from Cyprus Civil Defence records published before the March 2026 nationwide shelter review, as republished by the safe.101.cy project. They have not been re-verified. Some shelters may have closed, become private, moved or be locked. Always check a shelter before you rely on it.

Supplementary shelter findings come from the Audit Office of the Republic of Cyprus. Weather warnings come from the Cyprus Department of Meteorology via MeteoAlarm. Earthquake data comes from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Fire detections come from NASA FIRMS. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors (prepared by Protomaps). Place search uses OpenStreetMap data, on your phone and through Photon (Komoot). Satellite imagery comes from Esri (World Imagery).

When you are online, walking and driving distances come from our routing server, using OpenStreetMap data. Offline, the app measures in a straight line, so the real route is longer. Times are estimates, and location accuracy depends on your device.

Feeds can be late, incomplete or unavailable, for example when you are offline or a provider has an outage. Notifications can be delayed or not delivered.

4. No warranty

CyShield is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We do our best to keep it accurate and working, but we cannot promise that the information is complete, correct or up to date, or that the app will always work.

5. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, CyShield or its information, including decisions made based on shelter locations, warnings or distances.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of the Republic of Cyprus or the European Union, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, or your rights as a consumer.

6. Shelter reports

You can report a problem with a shelter. Reports never change official information. They are shown only as a count of open reports.

Report only what you have seen. Do not include personal data about yourself or others, such as names, phone numbers or photos of people.

By sending a report, you allow us to store it, review it and share its contents with the Cyprus Civil Defence or other competent authorities so they can check the shelter.

Do not send false, abusive or unlawful reports, or try to overload or misuse the service. We may ignore or remove such reports and limit access to reporting.

You can also send a shelter check: when you visited, what you found against the official details, and up to three photos. Photos are used to verify shelter information and may be forwarded to the authorities. They are not shown to other users in the app.

Photograph the building, entrance and sign only. Do not photograph people, vehicle number plates, or the inside of private homes, and do not enter private property or put yourself at risk to take a photo. By sending photos you confirm you took them yourself and you allow us to store them, review them and share them with the authorities for this purpose.

If you add a nickname, it appears in the contributors list in the app with the number of your accepted checks. Use a nickname, not your full name. We may decline or remove a submission, a photo or a nickname, and you can ask us to remove your nickname at any time.

You can also report a flooded road. A flood report shows a marker at that spot to other users for a few hours, marked as a resident report. Only report water you can see at that moment, and never enter floodwater to report it.

7. Voluntary support

Every feature of CyShield is free. Support payments are optional donations to help cover running costs. You do not receive goods, features or services in return.

In-app support payments are processed by Apple or Google under their terms, including their refund rules. Monthly support renews until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.

8. Third-party services

Some features open or rely on other services, such as phone calls, text messages, Google Maps, Waze, Find My, Esri, Photon and your device's share sheet. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.

9. Intellectual property

The CyShield name, logo, design and code belong to us. Data from third parties remains subject to its owners' rights and is credited in the app under Legal & privacy › Data sources.

10. Changes and ending

We may update the app and these terms. When we make an important change, we will show it in the app. If you keep using CyShield after a change, the updated terms apply. You can stop using CyShield at any time by deleting it.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Cyprus. The courts of the Republic of Cyprus have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer rights you have in your country of residence.
